BlåsForm is a design research project exploring how contemporary mould-making techniques can be integrated into traditional glass craftsmanship to support the long-term relevance of the Småland glass industry. Rooted in one of Sweden’s strongest craft traditions, the project addresses the need for technical development within glassmaking without compromising its material integrity or cultural value.

The project focuses on introducing 3D modelling, 3D printing and metal-based mould processes as tools to expand existing glass production methods. Rather than replacing traditional techniques, BlåsForm investigates how digital tools can complement and enhance established workflows, enabling new formal possibilities, improved efficiency and greater flexibility in production.

Developed in close collaboration with The Glass Factory in Småland and The National School of Glass (Riksglasskolan), the project was grounded in real workshop conditions, professional constraints and hands-on making.

My Role & Contribution

  • Concept development and process definition

  • 3D modelling of forms for mould testing

  • 3D printing using burn-out filament

  • Development and execution of ceramic slurry moulds

  • Hands-on collaboration with glassblowers during production

  • Material testing, documentation and process evaluation

  • Coordination with The Glass Factory and Riksglasskolan
